LambdaConf 2024 Highlights: The Golem Hackathon

Ziverge's Golem sponsored LambdaConf 2024 with yet another exciting Golem Hackathon.
Excitement filled the air at the Golem Hackathon on May 8th, where developers from various locations converged for a weekend of rigorous coding, inventive problem-solving, and groundbreaking innovation. Taking place in Estes Park, Colorado, the event attracted more than 70 participants, all enthusiastic to demonstrate their abilities for the top awards.
What were the winning solutions?
FIRST PLACE
Prize: Alienware 27-inch Gaming Monitor
Winner: John Anderson
John Anderson won with "a realistic, complete, and useful solution for a key-value store, with all functionality exported and made available via Golem's API and API gateway layers."
His work included several tests, leveraging Durable State and implementing in-memory key-value storage, showcasing one of Golem's strengths.
SECOND PLACE
Prize: iPad
Winner: Daniele Torelli
Daniele Torelli developed an SBT Plugin for WebAssembly component creation in Scala, simplifying the process and enabling Maven deployment.
He shared: "when dealing with tooling, you must take the burden off of the user, which means you have to take the burden on yourself."
THIRD PLACE
Prize: Gaming Mechanical Keyboard
Winner: Scott Weaver (Ziverge)
Scott Weaver created a solution leveraging Durable State without requiring a database. He themed his project around Colorado's national parks, using Rust for WASM support.
His final submission allows users via golem-cli to initialize workers for U.S. states and retrieve park information, with additional detailed lookup operations.
FOURTH PLACE
Prize: Collectible Golem Swag
Contributor: Adam Hearn
Adam Hearn worked on implementing Fetch in a JavaScript environment, though the judges wished to see full deployment.
Special Mentions
Fifth Place Honorable Mention: Team led by Adam McCullough
Their team developed a game session leveraging memory over storage, demonstrating another Golem strength.
Special Acknowledgment: Kaur Matas
Recognized for integrating Golem's timeline with Golem's APIs.
